What is home sharing?
Home Sharing is a living option for a person who has a developmental disability where they share a home with someone who provides ongoing support. Support may include assistance in daily living skills, training to develop their independence, self-care, relationship building, life skills, and access and use of community resources and activities. In this arrangement, the individual lives with a family, couple, or roommate in the community. Homes may be owned, rented or leased by the shared living provider or by the individual requiring support. Home sharing providers will be matched with the specific needs, interests and lifestyle preferences of the person receiving the support. There will be many conversations involved in selecting an appropriate home sharing contractor for each person, while we seek to find the best matches for everyone!
Support offered to people is unique and individualized based on their goals, needs and wants. A case manager works with each person to develop and implement person centered plans with the person, their supports and other services.
Clay Tree Society provides the support service to people with disabilities from Qualicum Bay, to Duncan, BC. The home share program connects participants with hosts who are willing to share their home and positive lifestyle with others. This is a worthwhile opportunity for those wishing to enhance someone’s future.
